Poseidon Rules Over Searsport

(Searsport). The next time you drive through Searsport on U.S. Hwy One, you’re bound to do what we did – a double take and a double back to get a look at this amazing piece of art at the Yardarm Motel. We talked with owner Wesley Murphy, who tells Downeast Digest they found they needed to remove a giant tree that had stood since the 1800’s – no doubt overseeing the buggies of Sea Captains, the weary travelers embarking for new worlds, the transition to the automobile, and most recently, the reconstruction of US One. Not wanting to see the loss of such a piece of history, Wesley contracted chainsaw artist Josh Landry to create this stunning statue of Poseidon. Take a moment and look closely at the intricate detail! Poseidon – protecting (and now connecting) Searsport’s past to the present, thanks to the good folks at the Yardarm Motel.
